Zanzibar.  More specifically Stone Town as Zanzibar is several islands with this island often referred to as “Zanzibar.”  I don’t think I can come up with a one word descriptor.   Many of the buildings are from the 1800s when a series of Sultans from Oman controlled the territory, they were followed by the British.  The Arabs operated their slave trade from here.

Many of the buildings are being rehabbed, maintaining their historic look.  Historic preservation rules keep the original look.  The street where my hotel is located is 6 or 7 feet wide, no vehicles.
