Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu was wonderful. The night of arrival was spent in Machu Picchu town It rained that night but the rain was over by the I left for Machu Picchu with my guide. If I were to do it again I'd probably go earlier and try to catch sunrise. Still might have missed sunrise due to clouds and the rain may not have been over yet. Machu Picchu is beautiful. It was somewhat foggy on arrival, clouds rolling up next to some of the mountains. Certainly not a place to miss, but it's not going to change so it may be one of those places that I go once.
About 60% of what you see today is original, the rest is restored.
Constructed beginning in about 1430 over a 100 year period until it was abandoned soon after the Spanish arrived. The Spanish never found it, restoration began in the mid 20th century.
The Incas didn't keep written records so we don't have real good information about the construction, etc
