Three rather unexciting days.
Saturday it rained until early afternoon. It was a light rain, more of an annoyance than anything . I did buy a cheap umbrella to keep myself somewhat dry and mostly stayed indoors.
The Cape Town Waterfront has a building that is essentially a food court of small vendors selling local food. It was a nice place for some lunch. A little bar on the upper level had a local musician. Relaxing.
Sunday I left Cape Town in the evening. That provided time to visit the Aquarium and grab some lunch before heading to the airport for a 6:50 flight to Jo’burg. Since you can’t get to Arusha, Tanzania from Cape Town, I flew to Jo’burg, then Nairobi, Kenya and finally to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania that airport being about 30 miles from the lodge from where the real trip begins. The entire flight thing took about 15 hours, I didn’t get that much sleep.
Monday was arrival at Serena Mountain Village near Arusha. It’s a rather rustic place, without a lot of options. I was advised by both the driver from the Safari company who picked me up at the airport and the staff at the lodge to not go outside the secure area without an escort. Being as I need the rest anyway, I’m taking the advice.
